Playing with his feet before the shot
Friday was a really eventful day. We got up super early (well, it was around 7am, so not too early since we are usually up around 8 or 8:30). It's funny how fast the morning goes by when you have to leave to go somewhere. When you are just planning on staying home, though, it goes by slow. Anywho...KJ turned 6 months on the 24th, so I set up a doctor's appointment for the 27th since Andrew had the day off work. I heard about this thing on babycenter where if you give your baby sugar water a few minutes before shots, the pain is lessened. I guess they give sugar water to baby boys before circumcision. (I wouldn't really know, though, cause my boy is intact.) I was going to try it out with KJ, but he refused it.
We got to the doctor's office and KJ was a trooper. Maybe a bit more than a a trooper. I have never known a kid to be so excited to be at the doctor's. I don't know what was in my milk that morning, but maybe I should be drinking it to give me the kinda energy that he had. He was bouncing and screaming joyfully at the TOP of his lungs. And I can hear this poor baby next door screaming his/her lungs out. That baby wasn't happy, though. I kept thinking, "Kayson, you have no idea what's coming."
**VENT** (If you don't like vents, skip this paragraph. ;-P) When we were there, though, his doctor got under my skin. Some doctors love to use scare tactics. This particular doctor was saying that we should have KJ get the flu shot. I politely declined and he asked why. I explained to him that Andrew and I had already had the flu shot and KJ was usually in the house with us. We don't really go out a whole lot. The doctor was saying, "Well eventually he's going to be out of the house." And then he dropped this bomb: "There's already been one child in the Valley who has died because he didn't have the flu shot. So, if it was my child, I'd give him the shot." Well, dangit doctor, last I checked this particular child was inside of MY body for dang near 9 months. I'm the one who spends all day in the house with him, so I would think I know what's best for him. I hate when people feel the need to parent my child. They've had their chance and I would like to have mine. I'm his mother. Let's just say, that was my first and last time that I'll be going to that doctor. One of the OBs in Rexburg used a similar scare tactic when I was pregnant with Kayson. He said, "If you keep gaining weight like this you're going to have a stillborn." He even suggested that I diet and exercise WHILE PREGNANT! I started out underweight...you would think that he'd be glad that I was packing on the pounds. (Which I happened to lose VERY quickly after giving birth. I'm already back in my prepregnancy clothes and weighing 120 pounds.)

Being comforted by Daddy during the shots

"Oh no, what is she doing to me?!"
Okay, I'm back to my "normal" self. KJ did so well at the dr's office. He cried out with the shots, but after the nurse was done and he had been cuddled for 2 minutes, he was all happy again. Squealing and bouncing.

At home, I had just finished feeding Kayson so he was laying on my lap. He let out a HUGE fart. It was all wet and I could actually feel the heat from it. I could feel the bubble, too. He did at least three more times. I figured he had pooped his diaper, but I didn't really know how big it was. I checked his legs and it hadn't seeped out or anything, so I didn't think much of it. Well...I was reaching to sit him up when I touch something wet and slimy on his back. I turn him around so that his back is facing me and there's this huge glob on the back of his shirt. I immediately laid him down on his stomach on the floor. All the seedy stuff was laying on top of the back of his onesie. I try to take off the onesie and there was poop all the way up to his shoulder. He has never had one so big! How does such a lil body produce so much poop?!

| He was so proud of himself. Look at that smile. | |

He definitely needed a bath after that.
